Brandon & Jessica’s Wedding

Way back on Halloween we spent the day with Brandon and Jessica, yet another one of our awesome  Linczak couples! We met these guys for the first time back at a bridal show a few years ago when they were actually working in a booth next to us. We’re stoked they remembered us when it came time to plan their wedding, and we were honored to be a part of it! It was nice getting to travel down to Akron for once, and we made use of some locations that were brand new to us. We also had the privilege of working with some awesome vendors: Heidi from Heidzillas, who kept the day running smoothly, and Gary from Jerry Bruno Productions, who kept the party going well into the night. Check out a few previews from the day…

Stephan & Crystal’s Wedding

We packed up our gear and headed west (well, somewhat west) to Van Wert, Ohio, to spend the first Saturday in October celebrating with Stephan and Crystal on their big day! Rachel and I have never been to this part of the state before, and it was nice getting to see a real life small town in person! Eventhough rain threatened pretty much the whole day, we managed to get through the afternoon nice and dry! We always love getting the chance to shoot in new surroundings, and today was no different. Thanks again guys for making us feel so welcome, we had a great time!

Kristie and Joe’s Wedding

Kristie and Joe got married on an absolutely beautiful Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago out in Perry, Ohio. When I arrived at Joe’s mom’s house to start the day, I told Joe that I was pretty sure this was the first time in 23 years that I’ve ever driven on route 2 east past Mentor Headlands! The area is pretty well suited for great photography, and aside for the onslaught of midges off of the lake, it worked perfectly for us. Kristie and Joe reside down in Houston, and even though we were meeting Joe for the first time on Saturday, it felt more like we’d been friends for years! Actually, once Joe started quoting Ron Burgandy, that’s when I knew we’d be getting along just fine. The ceremony and reception were held at Madison Country Club, which really did an exceptional job. Check out the previews:

Kristie and Joe opted for a First Glance, which we absolutely adore and fully endorse! It left plenty of time for awesome portraits prior to the ceremony, and made the whole afternoon go as smooth as butter…

Meghan & Steve’s Wedding

We spent the second half of our double header last weekend (that would be back on the 6th for anybody keeping track) with Meghan and Steven out in Painesville. These guys were actually the first couple we booked for the 2009 wedding season, and that was waaaay back in June of 2007! Way to be on top of the planning guys! Its pretty crazy to see how quickly the time has passed. Rachel and I really enjoyed shooting in the square near First Congregational Church for the first time as well, and the day unfolded without a hitch, just the way we like to roll. We knew from their engagement session last fall that Meghan and Steve were going to be great in front of the camera, and they definitely did not disappoint! Check out some images form the day:

David & Emilee’s Wedding

The second half of this past weekend found us spending our Saturday with Emilee and David and their family and friends. Rachel and I were pretty excited when Emilee first told us they’d be getting married on the campus of Miami University, and my first instinct was to pack my suntan lotion and swimming trunks. Of course, my much smarter wife informed me that we’d instead be traveling down to Oxford Ohio, and not South Beach (actually this was a pretty lame attempt at humor, but feel free to laugh anyways)!

We’d never been down to Oxford before, and we were amazed what a beautiful area the campus sits on. I guess it can be best described as very Americana and almost Norman Rockwell-esque. It was awesome! We really had a great day of shooting, and I have to mention how warm and inviting everyone was to us the entire wedding day! We definintely felt more like guests than anything else! Thanks again guys for your kindness and sincerity! Check out some images…

I like to start the day with a few images of the bling bling…

Putting on cuff links usually yields some pretty cool shots…

I think David has an excellent serious look…

GQ to the max!

The guys were great to work with, and you can tell this is a pretty tight group!

Switching over to Emilee’s details…

I loved the birdcage veil!

Love this…

Emilee is quite stunning!

You can always count on Rach to rock out some mirror shots!

Kumler Chapel is by far one of the coolest chapels we’ve ever shot in…

God painted a beautiful sky for us that morning!

This was a few minutes before everybody walked down the aisle. The expressions real sum up the mood of the day!

The ceremony…

Dad watching his little girl…

Married!

There’s no way you can pass up light like this…

There was a lot of cool places to shoot in and around campus…

Bridal party time!

Emilee with her girls…

Back to our feature presentation…

There was some pretty nice light in this little spot we found…

I think David loved getting some kisses from his new bride!

One of my favorites from the day…

Loved the flowers at the reception!

First dance serenade…

This was a sweet moment between Emilee and her dad…

What a weekend! Thanks guys for everything, and enjoy your time away!

Kelly & Michael’s Wedding…

This past Saturday was the wedding of Kelly and Michael.  The weather was bit grey, but that didn’t stop Kelly and Mike!  I love these two because I think they are absolutely the best people in the world for each other.  I knew for sure how much I loved them when Michael sent me an email earlier this week that ended with “2 1/2 days!  I can’t wait!”  Any man that emails his photographer to say he can’t wait to marry his girl earns the “love” card from me.  Any two people who have that much love for each other, do not need perfect weather!  On to the goods…

Kelly looking amazing.  Nothing out of the ordinary.

Mike looked kinda good too…

The coolest part of the whole church:

It never did actually rain, but I don’t think they would have noticed if it did!

I love this image.  Again back to the hands - the placement of Kelly’s hands says so much!  If they had just been folded behind his neck, or resting on his shoulder, this image wouldn’t have been anywhere close to this.

Michael poses a problem being so tall but I think we managed…;)

I love the yellow against the blue!

Fighting back a couple sprinkles sent us inside the church into this amazing window light.  The pose and the movement in Kelly’s hips just make this shot for me!

Mike just HAD to step in for some of this action!

The reception was at Lamalfa in Mentor.

The DJ brought along these amazing lights to make the first dance look better in our pictures.  Okay, probably not for that reason, but we were diggin it!  It was hard to catch these two as they brilliantly danced a choreographed routine.  Nicely done guys!

We had a little extra time before taking off, so Ted and got several end of the night shots, of which we will leave you with two:

All the best guys!  You were awesome!

Liz and Kyle’s Wedding…

Who would have thought that we would have had a 73 degree, sunny, perfect day in the middle of April in Ohio?  Not me, that’s for sure, but that’s exactly what we had for Liz and Kyle this past Saturday.  No one could have made better use of it either!  Way back last year when we first met with Liz, she decided (after meeting us) that she had to have more time for pictures.  Because of her decision, she made it incredibly hard for me to decide which pictures were going up on the blog today!  What a way to kick off a season!  Check their hottness out!

This blue was what the whole day was like:

Liz has got to be one of the easiest people in the world to photograph.  I love doing bridal portraits on the bed these days, and usually they are hard to maneuver.  Not for Liz!

Kyle has kind of an subtle attractiveness about him.  If you take one look at him, you know he’s tough.  Yet, he’s impossible not to like!

This was my shot of the day.  I am so happy with it I can’t even tell you.  Isn’t Liz amazing?!

Love this ring shot:

The next images I want to show you demonstrate a point that Ted and I feel very strongly about.  There is much debate in the photography world about strictly capturing moments when they happen as opposed to helping the moment along to become something better than it would have been by itself.  Our philosophy has always been not to interfere, but to help things happen in a way to tells the story in a more flattering and conducive way.  Ted demonstrated this so well with the following two images.  When he showed up, the groomsmen were simply standing in the hallway behind the church, not really doing anything.

Not a bad photo at all, and it is what they were really doing, right?  Well, Ted didn’t stop with just what they were doing!  He took advantage of the time he had and got the following shot:

This is what Ted and I have dubbed “artistic photojournalism”.  Creating real moments instead of waiting for something that may never happen on it’s own.  I love this second shot, and all it took was a little foresight by the photographer!

I’m done preaching now, back to the post!

Another great thing about the wedding day was that everyone there was so laid back and had fun.  That always makes a difference in the dynamic of the day for us!  Here is Liz’s mom cracking up during the ceremony:

Love this shot Ted grabbed from the other side of the altar:

This is a crazy thing we want to start doing at all weddings: a massive group shot of all the guests on the steps of the church!  It’s always fun!

Another component of wedding photography that we feel very strongly about, is the family formal photos.  I’ve mentioned it before in other blog posts, but I’ll say it again: we LOVE doing these photos outside rather than the altar of the church.  This gives us the freedom to use superior light and to make the formals more intimate.  More of an ‘anti-formal” if you will.  You can’t argue with the results:

Before we take off to our locations, we like to use the church in a more unconventional way…

My favorite from Ted from the day!  This shot was awesome because it took an awesome bride to climb up that ladder/staircase to get to this spot.  That’s called trust and it was soooooooooooooo worth it!

We stayed in the area of Medina for the day, and found some great spots.  This was the first randomness - an awesome weeping tree next to a pond.  Don’t ask where it is, because we have no idea anymore!

Best bridal party shot EVER!

The next location was Liz’s parents’ farm.  It was a nice resting place too for everyone to take a breather!  I LOVE Liz’s serious look.  So therefore, I LOVE this shot from Ted.

The crazy guys…We loved them!

Next stop: one of those ask forgiveness, not permission places…

Next, we went down to downtown Medina, which is going in the books as one of Ted and Rachel’s favorite places to shoot.

Liz is one of those “whole package” kind of girls.  She’s gorgeous and yet a tomboy all at the same time.  Kyle’s a lucky guy!

Ted’s view:

My view (noticing the differences yet?):

I’m one for the dramatic…

All that amazing color you’re seeing is straight out of camera, and for you photographers out there - yes, it was shot JPG and yes, with our white balance target!

Ted’s shot of the day.  No words need to introduce it:

The crazy thing is, I don’t think we wore them out!

The first dance was awesome and I’ll leave you with 2.

My view:

Ted’s view:

Kyle and Liz - we love you guys and wish all the best in your many years to come!
