David & Emilee’s Wedding

The second half of this past weekend found us spending our Saturday with Emilee and David and their family and friends. Rachel and I were pretty excited when Emilee first told us they’d be getting married on the campus of Miami University, and my first instinct was to pack my suntan lotion and swimming trunks. Of course, my much smarter wife informed me that we’d instead be traveling down to Oxford Ohio, and not South Beach (actually this was a pretty lame attempt at humor, but feel free to laugh anyways)!

We’d never been down to Oxford before, and we were amazed what a beautiful area the campus sits on. I guess it can be best described as very Americana and almost Norman Rockwell-esque. It was awesome! We really had a great day of shooting, and I have to mention how warm and inviting everyone was to us the entire wedding day! We definintely felt more like guests than anything else! Thanks again guys for your kindness and sincerity! Check out some images…

I like to start the day with a few images of the bling bling…

Putting on cuff links usually yields some pretty cool shots…

I think David has an excellent serious look…

GQ to the max!

The guys were great to work with, and you can tell this is a pretty tight group!

Switching over to Emilee’s details…

I loved the birdcage veil!

Love this…

Emilee is quite stunning!

You can always count on Rach to rock out some mirror shots!

Kumler Chapel is by far one of the coolest chapels we’ve ever shot in…

God painted a beautiful sky for us that morning!

This was a few minutes before everybody walked down the aisle. The expressions real sum up the mood of the day!

The ceremony…

Dad watching his little girl…

Married!

There’s no way you can pass up light like this…

There was a lot of cool places to shoot in and around campus…

Bridal party time!

Emilee with her girls…

Back to our feature presentation…

There was some pretty nice light in this little spot we found…

I think David loved getting some kisses from his new bride!

One of my favorites from the day…

Loved the flowers at the reception!

First dance serenade…

This was a sweet moment between Emilee and her dad…

What a weekend! Thanks guys for everything, and enjoy your time away!

Neil and Katrina’s Wedding

This past weekend was quite a crazy one for us! We started off Friday with Neil and Katrina, and made the drive down to Cincinnati right after their wedding wrapped up (about 11pm) to photograph Emilee and David (coming soon) starting at 8:30 am the next day!  Needless to say, we slept pretty good when we arrived home Saturday night!

The first part of our weekend was with Katrina and Neil, who are just about the most fun couple you could ever meet.  I love Katrina because she is the kind of person who never holds back her emotions.  We first met her at a bridal show a year or so ago and as she and I were talking about wedding day photography, she burst into tears!  I fell in love with her right then!  When we finally met Neil, I wasn’t disappointed.  He is her perfect balance: so much fun with just the right amount of seriousness.  I don’t think anyone stopped smiling all day.  The weather went right along with our mood too - not a cloud in the sky!

What’s that?  A reflection?!

Probably a bad idea to give Neil’s present to Katrina as she was having her makeup done, but I love this moment anyway…

You know I couldn’t leave that mirror alone!

Not only is Katrina pretty amazing, but her friends and family are too!  While I was taking the following image, everyone behind me was going, “Ooooooohhhh…..Awwwwwwww…..”  How’s that for encouragement?

I can be such a girl, but I love details.  This compact was my favorite:

One of my all time favorite getting ready images from Ted - I love all that negative space!

Neil got a pretty awesome present from Katrina that came wrapped in those colors everyone loves to see: Tiffany blue and white!  Fun fact: they got each other the same exact card without knowing it!

Check out this handsome dude!

One of the most exciting moments in the wedding photographer’s career (at least ours anyway) is being able to photograph what we call a “First Glance”.  For those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s a special meeting before the wedding between the bride and groom.  It’s private, it’s exciting, it’s electricity, it’s emotional…  The First Glance allows the bride and groom to talk, to laugh, to cry with each other - things that can’t always happen on the altar of the church with every eye on you.  We are partial to the first glance because it allows us to capture the most emotionally charged moment of the day (the second the couple sees one another for the first time) with no distractions or limitations.  It also allows us much more time to capture photos of the bride and groom together and makes the ceremony to reception transition much smoother.  Because of all said reasons, Katrina and Neil chose to do a First Glance.  Check out this amazing moment when Katrina was first walking up to Neil…

Keeping the groom’s back turned on the initial approach we feel really preserves the moment when the bride walks down the aisle for the first time.  It makes it an entirely different moment!

This is the point where we become “photo ninjas” and allow the couple to have their private time…

Clinton Ohio has so much to offer as far as photography locations!  We found this great tree lined drive right away…

Then this off the wall little area…

Then my favorite: Yoder’s small engine repair shop.  Amazing!  Katrina and Neil really fit well into the urban/hip style, so this location was perfect for them!  Check out the eyes on this girl!!!

Who wouldn’t stop here?!?!

Occasions Party Center looks pretty nice all dressed up.

Now time for the outdoor ceremony - another Linczak favorite!

Married!

I will spare you my weekly speech about family formals just as long as you know, we did everything outdoors!  :)  Actually, with perfect timing, a big cloud rolled over the sun just enough to give us this perfect light:

Have I mentioned that pink is my favorite color?

The stylin’ men!

Now on to the fun part of the day: the party!  And party we did, with one of our favorite DJ’s Brian McDonald with Academy DJ’s.

Not that anyone had to work to keep people on this dance floor!

And last but not least - stealing the couple out back for a sweet end of the night shot!

Have a great honeymoon you guys!  You deserve it!

Mitchell & Cristie’s E-Session

Mitchell and Cristie made the drive all the way from Akron to do their engagement session with us out near Hinckley, and we were psyched that we had some beautiful weather to work with! These guys are busy planning their wedding for fall of next year, and hopefully having their session wrapped up will help cross one more thing of their “to-do” list. We had some really gorgeous afternoon light to play with, and I think we took advantage of it quite nicely! Thanks for being awesome in front of the camera guys, we had fun spending the afternoon with you!

I think this image really captures the relationship beautifully!

We are suckers for tall grass…

Love the light!

Adam & Kristin’s Wedding

Rachel and I have been anticipating Adam and Kristin’s wedding for quite some time now, not only because they are beautiful couple, but because they are super laid back and up for anything! While we had some awesome outdoor locations lined up for our creative time, the rain moved in and rearranged our plans a bit! We like to say that one of the most challenging (and most rewarding) parts of what we do is working through the unexpected things that occur on wedding day (in this case a day of rain!), and making the best out of any situation. So we definitely didn’t let the weather get to us, and instead focused on getting some beautiful images indoors! Kristin and Adam were game for any ideas we had, and I think we really came away with some beautiful images. We even caught a little break in the weather that allowed us to head outdoors for a little. What made the day even better was working with some awesome friends and colleagues, Brian and Susy Morris from 2nd Mile Productions. These guys are top notch at what they do, so be sure to check them out if your looking for some amazing wedding videography. On to the images!

Love this dress shot by Rach…

We’ll catch up to Kristin in a little bit (for chronological sake!). Here’s our dashing groom Adam…

Adam’s band was especially unique…

This made me chuckle…

These guys were all smiles during the ceremony…

Rachel and I love doing our formals outside in beautiful natural light. It allows for a much more intimate family portrait, and everyone is always just a bit more relaxed outdoors than when they have 30 flashes pointed at them inside. In addition to this, it allows the finished album to flow in a more natural way, and doesn’t interrupt the story being told with a spread of images that look nothing like what’s in the rest of the book!

Kristin and Adam have some of the best natural expressions I’ve ever seen!

We used a few spots around the church…

Once we got to the Marriott, we caught a little break in the weather and headed outside…

Love this…

One of my favorites from the day…

I told you we’d get back to Kristin!

She was a stunning bride!

I saw this, but I was nice enough to let Rachel shoot it…

LOVE!

Some yummy cake…

First dance…

We grabbed a few more before the end of the evening…

What an awesome day! Thanks guys, and we’re looking forward to our after session in the near future!

Lawanda and Mackenzie’s E-Session

We headed down to Glamorgan Castle in Alliance Friday evening to shoot Lawanda and Mackenzie’s engagement session. Friday was about as nice of a day as you can get in Ohio, and by the time we started shooting we had some really beautiful light to work with. With summer right around the corner, we like to start our sessions no earlier than 6 or 7, and take advantage of that gorgeous light that only happens later in the day! Lawanda and Mackenzie were full of laughs all evening, and we were even able to bring little Brianne and Izzy in for some family portraits. I think everyone had a great time by the end of the night! Check out some previews…

Some of that awesome light…

These guys had no problem in front of the camera!

One of my favs…

The whole family!

Thanks again guys!

Happy Tuesday!

We’ve got a ton of great sessions and weddings to post in the next few days, but I thought this was a fitting day to post a few images of a furry little guy who was watching us shoot one of our engagement sessions this past Sunday. He was amazingly brave and let us come right up to him! He’s way too cute…

He even let us do some headshots…

Kelly & Michael’s Wedding…

This past Saturday was the wedding of Kelly and Michael.  The weather was bit grey, but that didn’t stop Kelly and Mike!  I love these two because I think they are absolutely the best people in the world for each other.  I knew for sure how much I loved them when Michael sent me an email earlier this week that ended with “2 1/2 days!  I can’t wait!”  Any man that emails his photographer to say he can’t wait to marry his girl earns the “love” card from me.  Any two people who have that much love for each other, do not need perfect weather!  On to the goods…

Kelly looking amazing.  Nothing out of the ordinary.

Mike looked kinda good too…

The coolest part of the whole church:

It never did actually rain, but I don’t think they would have noticed if it did!

I love this image.  Again back to the hands - the placement of Kelly’s hands says so much!  If they had just been folded behind his neck, or resting on his shoulder, this image wouldn’t have been anywhere close to this.

Michael poses a problem being so tall but I think we managed…;)

I love the yellow against the blue!

Fighting back a couple sprinkles sent us inside the church into this amazing window light.  The pose and the movement in Kelly’s hips just make this shot for me!

Mike just HAD to step in for some of this action!

The reception was at Lamalfa in Mentor.

The DJ brought along these amazing lights to make the first dance look better in our pictures.  Okay, probably not for that reason, but we were diggin it!  It was hard to catch these two as they brilliantly danced a choreographed routine.  Nicely done guys!

We had a little extra time before taking off, so Ted and got several end of the night shots, of which we will leave you with two:

All the best guys!  You were awesome!

Baby Eliot…

Some of you may remember Chris and Michelle’s maternity session from a few months back, and now we’re thrilled to show off the newest member of their family, little baby Eliot! I think Eliot had a blast during his first ever photoshoot, and with the full head of hair he’s currently sporting, he definitely has nothing to cry about! Congratulations again Chris and Michelle, you guys are going to be amazing parents! Here are a few previews from the session…

Mom and dad with their new little guy…

Too cute!

Look at these little feet!

I know Eliot is gonna love these in about 18 years!

James and Steph…Wedding Day!

So this past week leading up to Saturday had me nervous since it was raining almost very day and every night.  Not to worry for Saturday though - the day was beautiful, sunny, and warm!  It couldn’t have been better timing either since we were shooting the wedding of James and Steph!  I say all the time that I love our job because we get to meet new people all the time, and people like James and Steph really highlight that for me.  They are both so laid back, it’s impossible not to feel comfortable with them - it was like we’ve known them for years!  Besides that, they are both gorgeous, which never hurts us as photographers!

I’ve been called a girly-girl before, but I don’t care - I love pink!  Apparently, so does Steph!

Grooms have details too!

I think James looks smokin here:

Ted told me he walked into James and Steph’s house and immediately was drawn towards this clock.  I love it!  Our clients have such good taste!

Now back to Steph…

I love cathedral veils as I have mentioned before.  I specifically loved this one since we have photographed it before almost 2 years ago from the wedding of Chris and Nicole!  Of course the veil only highlights the real beauty which is Steph…

Shoutout to bridesmaid Lexi for assisting me with this shot!  I love the dramatic look when I photograph the bride on her own.  This is drama to the max!

After that, it was off to the church in the limo bus which was well stocked with champagne!

Need proof about the weather?  Check out Old Stone…

Steph and her dad definitely have a special relationship and it was never more obvious than right before the walk down the aisle.

I love it when brides and grooms have great expressions during the ceremony.

Now it’s time for my weekly speech about family formals.  I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: we LOVE doing the family formals outside.  I’ve told you before about how we love getting people to lean in and talk to each other to display their relationships, but we also love to do them outside because of the quality of light.  Ted and I believe very strongly in the use of natural light as much as possible.  This is why you will hardly ever see us with flashes mounted to our cameras or setting up extensive lights.  This is for a couple different reasons, but a main one is because we believe you can’t improve on God’s design!  No matter how hard people try, beautiful, open shade will always be more flattering and provide better color than artificial light and flashes.  Besides that, we’ve found that people are WAY more camera aware when flashes or lights are being fired.  To quote my dad in his “funny” voice here: “We don’t want that.”

Okay, you guys can all breathe a sigh of relief that this weeks’ lecture is over!  :)

Mine and Ted’s recent obsession?  Reflections.  Again.  Count how many are in this one blog post alone!

<3 this crazy bridal party!

Steph had some gorgeous girls!  I loved her alternating pinks too!

These guys are way too cool…

It wouldn’t be a Linczak day without at least one arrow!

One of my biggest pet peeves is what I have affectionately started calling “dead arm”.  This is where the bride and groom will be together in an image, either engaged in a passionate kiss, laughing together, or gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes while either one or both of them will have an arm hanging at their side.  To me, this is a huge contradiction of what we want our images to say.  I don’t care where those hands are but they can NEVER hang at your side!  That’s why I start our creative time by telling the groom “Your only rule from me today is that you have to keep both hands on your bride at all times.  You get to choose where they go!”  This image is James following that rule.  Think about what this image WOULD have said if his hand had been in his lap or at his side, which is where it very well could have been if we hadn’t addressed it!

The shot of the day.  The best part is that this is basically straight out of camera!

We grabbed another couple before heading out…

Props must go to our good friends Brian and Susy Morris from 2nd Mile Productions for the mechanics of our first dance shots from now on.  This goes hand in hand with our desire to use natural light as opposed to flash.  For receptions, we like to bring 2 video lights for the main dances and set them up on either side of the dance floor.  This creates a look of custom lighting (like a spotlight on the bride and groom) while also allowing us to create some super dramatic images of the first dance.  That also lets us capture the true ambiance of the room instead of using flash to make the image look like everything was lit up.  Some reception people and DJ’s at times don’t understand it, but I think the results speak loud enough for themselves.

I felt like I learned so much about James just by meeting his parents.  They are 2 of the nicest people in the world.

AJ from Absolute Entertainment opened the door for a cool shot when he turned on his cool laser lights.

I think this is my favorite end of the night shot ever.

Thanks guys for being so awesome!  Have a great honeymoon!!!!

Chris & Heather E-Session

We met up with Chris and Heather downtown a few days ago to get capture some engagement images for them. They are planning a Wisconsin wedding next May (Go Packers!), and we were happy to provide them with some images as a pre-cursor to the big day! On a side note, I’m extrememely proud of myself of actually parking downtown AND leaving without receiving a parking ticketing. Aside from that, another great afternoon of warm weather and fun shooting! Thanks for a great session guys! Here are some previews:

Playin’ around a little…

We’re pretty big fans of these rusty looking steps…

Sweet…
